The Secret Plant Society F.A.Q.

Secret Plant Society FAQ
Welcome to the Frequently Asked Questions page for The Secret Plant Society by Gamehouse.
Last updated November 18th 2010
What is Hybridization?
Hybridization is the key to Secret Plant Society. Hybridization happens when one plant matures in the presence of another and successfully creates a new seed (a hybrid). If the hybridized seed is a brand new seed that you have never created before, you will see a purple seed floating above the mature plant. If you have already created this seed, there will be a brown seed floating above the hybridized plant.
For hybridization to have a chance at success, there must be a completely mature plant directly adjacent to the growing plant -at the moment of maturity-. The more mature plants you have adjacent to a growing plant, the more chances you have that the newly mature plant will have hybridized with one of them.
The likelihood of a successful hybridization is different for each combination, with rarer breeds having a lower chance of a successful hybridization on maturity.

What is a Mystery Seed
When you create a successful hybridization of a breed for the first time, you will collect a "Mystery Seed" upon harvest. A mystery seed is just that – a mystery. In order for you to ‘discover’ that plant, you must grow it to maturity. Upon discovery, that breed will be entered in to your almanac.Return to the top.Mystery Seed

Why should I Harvest?
When a plant has matured, it can be harvested. Upon harvesting, you will receive coins, a seed added to your seed box and experience points (XP). The seed that you gain at harvest depends on if the plant had hybridized. If it has hybridized, you will receive a seed of the hybrid. If it didn't hybridize, you will receive the seed of the harvested plant.

Why do I need Members?
Members are a fun part of Secret Plant Society! You can visit other members' gardens to see their greenhouse design, help water their plants, or even get a sneak peak of some plants that you may not have discovered yet! If the other member has a mature plant in their greenhouse that you haven't discovered, you will see its form but can't see its details. To purchase certain items in the Market, you will need to know other members, so make sure to get your friends to join you!

What's the deal with the Plants?
Plants are the basis for Secret Plant Society. They provide a beautiful environment, they provide a puzzle with hybridization and they are an integral part of the Secret Plant Society lore. In Secret Plant Society, you will never lose a plant because it hasn't been watered. If a plant runs out of water it stops growing so you lose progression towards maturing, but it can always be revived with watering by you or another member. Once you have watered it, it will continue maturing. It is also important to point out that a ‘wilted’ plant will not hybridize with others, it must be healthy (watered). If you are growing a plant that you haven't discovered, you won't see its details until it has been discovered.

What are 'Special Properties'?
Some plants and decoration items have special properties that affect the plants around them. You can see when an item has special properties by a glow around it and the plants nearby. The special properties of these items will be described in the Almanac when you have discovered the plant. If a plant becomes wilted, it will lose its special properties until it is watered again. There are also some special properties that haven't been released yet, and will become a part of the game in future releases. Those special properties are noted with 'TBD'.

What is in the Almanac?
The Almanac is your guide to Secret Plant Society and will be a key part of the story and lore of the game as it develops. Inside the Almanac, you will see a description of each plant that you have discovered, as well as hybridization charts helping you track your successful hybrids (and hints to how many variants are possible for each breed) as well as any special properties that a plant may have. You can jump straight to a certain entry in the almanac by clicking on the research (magnifying glass) icon in the menu and then clicking on the plant that you want to research.

What do the icons mean in the game?
The menu in the lower right corner of the screen gives you all the tools you need to manage your greenhouse. When using the tools, make sure to select the item by hovering near its base. You can tell that you have selected the correct item if the grid directly below it has been highlighted. The arrow tool will bring up a menu when you select a plant or item. This context menu will provide options like "Move", "Flip", "Water", "Uproot", or "Sell". The shears tool will harvest a plant if it has reached maturity. The watering can tool will add water to your plants, resetting their level to the maximum of the pot. The glove tool will allow you to easily move items around the floor of your greenhouse. The magniying glass tool will bring up the details page in the almanac of the plant you click on.

When you begin the game, you can put pots and items on the floor of the greenhouse. When you harvest a plant, the seed is placed inside of the Seed Box. If you want to take any other item (like pots or decorations) off of the floor without selling it, you need storage. Storage can be purchased from within the Market after you reach a certain level. The storage items will sit on the floor of the greenhouse, but you can purchase different sizes of storage that will hold more items for storage. All items "in storage" can be accessed by going to the ‘Storage’ tab.

When you take an item out of the mailbox, you will not be able to put it back in, so make sure you have room for it before taking it from the mailbox.
